Profile

Tessa Hart {they/them or any pronouns} has been a Culture & Change Maker in film, performing arts, community work and socio-cultural fields, for over 15 years, working across intersections and beyond boundaries. Since July 2024, Tessa has been Qualification Programmes Coordinater at kultur_formen (at the Berlin Project Fund Arts Education). In addition, Tessa's ongoing activities range from curation and participation in selection committees, such as at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival since 2020, over facilitation and educational work, to Artistic Direction of the collective company Goblin Baby Co. since 2013. Formerly, Tessa was Project & Artistic Director of AfroPolitan Berlin from 2020 to 2024 as well as Co-Founder, Artistic and Executive Co-Director of the Bread & Roses Theatre in London in varying functions, overall from 2012 to 2022, and has contributed to seven book publications since 2018. Born in the GDR, grown up near Berlin and in Brussels, Tessa also lived and worked in London for almost a decade and has been back in Berlin since 2018. Throughout all of this, Tessa has navigated very intersectional worlds of experience through existence, hence expertise on power and discrimination critical thinking as well as a commitment to equal opportunities and cultural reflection of actual societal realities have always been a leitmotif.

Tessa completed a BA in Theatre Studies (Free University of Berlin, 2009), an MFA in Acting International (East 15 Acting School/University of Essex, 2011), as well as two one-year training programmes for selected playwrights (Tamasha Playwrights 2016 / Criterion New Writing 2017), a two-year training course in Systemic Coaching (SG certified) & Organisational Development (SIA Berlin, 2024) and is currently part-time pursuing a doctorate (Free University of Berlin).

As an author, Tessa has contributed to Realitäten. 30 queere Stimmen (etece buch), Schwarz wird großgeschrieben (&Töchter), Sisters & Souls 2 (orlanda), Was uns empowert (unrast), Racialised Faces in white Creative Spaces (edition assemblage); as a poet and playwright to Parabolis Virtualis 3 (Querverlag), Hear Me Now - Audition Monologues for Actors of Colour (Bloomsbury) as well as having written theatre plays.
