Alone Inside the Box
In a series of monologues Goblin Baby Theatre Co. explores what it means to be on your own with your thoughts in our contemporary world. From comedy to tragedy, from abstract to literal, these are thought-provoking stories of characters, sometimes stuck in an actual box, sometimes in a metaphorical one, sometimes both.

The Vagina Monologues (V-Day)
Since 2013 I have been producing yearly V-Day benefit productions of The Vagina Monologues. In the first year I produced it for the OBR Art Festival and in following years with Goblin Baby Theatre Co. The performances have been selling out each year and profits donated to relevant charities. The award-winning play is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength.

The Proposal / To Be a Wife
In response to the legislations allowing same-sex marriage in the UK and alongside the widely discussed discrimination of LGBT people in Russia, Goblin Baby Theatre Co. gave Anton Chekhov's one-act-classic The Proposal a new twist by turning it into a futuristic farce about marriage equality in Russia. To complete the comedy-double-bill we also presented a brand new play about same-sex marriage by Tilly Lunken called To Be a Wife.

The Devil & Stepashka by Claire Booker
★★★★ - Exeunt Magazine |
Russian landowner, Zhenya, sows wild oats with one of his peasant girls, but puts it all behind him when he marries - or so he believes. Inspired by a Tolstoy short story, the play follows Zhenya’s obsession and its murderous consequence, as he finds himself driven mad with desire for Stepashka. Desperate to end his guilty liaison and safeguard his marriage, he shoots her and stands trial for murder. But can there be true justice in an unjust society? And is it guilt, insanity or the supernatural that finally haunts him? The Devil & Stepashka was the first full length play presented by Goblin Baby Theatre Co.

RETOLD - A Fairytale Festival... without the 'Happily ever after'
Fairytales have always fascinated us and captivated audiences from young to old. Many themes are far beyond being just children’s stories and often the moral of the story can be quite sinister. Some fairytales have origins reaching back thousands of years and over time they have constantly been changed and updated, showing how in their very core they deal with fundamental topics and issues of humanity and human nature. Continuing the practice of adapting fairytales in order to expose and criticise stories of the contemporary world, RETOLD presented new, mature and provocative takes on three of them. Aimed at an adult audience, although suitable for ages 12 and over. Presented by Goblin Baby Theatre Co.
★★★★ “Goblin Baby Theatre Co. seems to have a knack for finding ways to address at times challenging or unusual topics through theatre.” - 4 stars, Remotegoat on RETOLD (Producer/Artistic Director, Hen & Chickens, January 2014) |
The Platform
A Page to Stage Scratch Night for New Writing
since October 2012 - The Bread & Roses Theatre
The Bread & Roses Theatre Company (BRTC) has been running regular new writing night The Platform since October 2012 in what was originally nothing more than the upstairs function room at The Bread & Roses Pub. This was the project that inspired the transformation of the space and eventual launch of The Bread & Roses Theatre on the 1st of November 2014!
The Platform usually takes place two times per year and features a selection of some of the best new short plays out there. It has quickly established itself as an opportunity to discover, develop and explore new scripts, whilst also providing actors, directors and writers with an opportunity to showcase their work. Tessa is a co-founder and ongoing co-producer of the shows. |
★★★★ "It was one of the best written, directed, acted and structured projects of this sort that I have seen to date. (...) With this already being the fourth show, my final verdict would be that this particular new writing night is one to watch and keep on watching!" - Remotegoat |
The Platform – A Page to Stage Workshop for New Writing presented by the Bread and Roses Theatre Company is rapidly growing as one of the strongest short work platforms in London. They are consistent in both quantity and quality and with this being the fourth successful one it looks set to continue for a good while. - Onomatopoeia |
